This desert classic is characterized by its ribbed, cylindrical shape and bright golden spines that glow in the sunlight. We’ve potted this one with our special cactus soil, in a terra-cotta honeycomb pot with drainage hole.
LIGHT Your Golden Barrel cactus needs as much bright light as you can give it! Indoors a sunny windowsill is perfect, just be careful of direct Summer sunlight from a South-facing window as it could burn the plant. Outdoors it can tolerate medium light to full sun.
WATER Water deeply, then allow to dry out completely before watering again. Water slowly at the base of the plant until water comes out of the drainage hole. Frequency will depend on factors such as time of year and lighting conditions. A good starting point is every 1-2 weeks in the warmer Spring and Summer months, decreasing in late Fall. You’ll only need to water once between December and February, as these plants go dormant in Winter.
